J's fundraiser to help prevent gun violence
Tax deductible
I'm raising money to benefit the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund in an effort to help prevent gun violence. Mass shootings have been a national crisis for a long time now and Colorado has been experiencing too much gun violence with Columbine High School, the Aurora Theater, and most recently in Boulder. In March a man walked into the Boulder King Soopers with a legally purchased Assault Rifle. He passed a background check even though he was previously convicted of assault and he bought a weapon of war that no civilian should own. In Boulder county we successfully voted to ban assault weapons, just to have a judge toss out the ban 10 days before the shooting. This is absolutely maddening.
Since this tragic event, I have become involved with Mom's Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety. These organizations are not anti-gun or anti second amendment, they are anti gun violence and work hard for common sense gun control including stronger background checks and a ban on assault weapons. People can keep their handguns and hunting rifles if they want them, that's not what we're after. If republicans want armed officers in schools, fine do it. If republicans want more funding for mental health, great, that will help a lot of people. But let's compromise here - republicans can have those things and keep their handguns and hunting rifles, but we need common sense gun control now. This is out of control and mass shootings will not just magically stop. I am proud to call Joe Neguse my congressman. He co-sponsored H.R. 1808 the Assault Weapons Ban of 2021 and H.R. 1446 The Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021. Joe gives me some hope and we can end this nonsense through action.
Since the shooting in Boulder I have felt sadness, shock and horror as well as feelings of helplessness. Advocating, donating, marching and calling representatives has helped me feel less helpless. This memorial day, I will be running in the Bolder Boulder, a classic and beloved 10k race in our community. I want to use this race as an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Everytown for Gun Safety. Please donate on this page and on the race day, I will have a list of all donors on my bib so you can be there with me in spirit. All donations will go directly to Everytown for Gun Safety and you will receive a tax receipt since this is a non-profit.
Thank you so much for donating to a cause that is so meaningful to me.
