J's Heartbreak: Funeral and Repair Funds
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Dawn, and I’m a counselor at a high school in Colorado. I’ve been working with a student for the past five years who has faced immense challenges. Her mother is incarcerated, and her father has been absent for the past few years. Despite these hardships, she’s been doing everything she can to stay on track. She works the midnight shift at Amazon, attends school during the day, and manages an apartment on her own—all at just 18 years old.
Two months ago, her oldest sister had a baby and unfortunately left the newborn at the hospital. The baby was born addicted to meth and heroin, spending the first two weeks of her life in detox. As the next of kin, J couldn’t bear the thought of the baby being placed into foster care, especially since she’s studying to become a social worker. So, she and her roommate decided to take on the responsibility of raising the baby. They loved and cared for Alexia, revolving their lives around her well-being.
Tragically, last Thursday morning, after returning home from work, J found the baby unresponsive. Despite calling 911, they were unable to revive her, and the baby passed away. J and her roommate are heartbroken and devastated by this loss. J has taken time off work to grieve and to make funeral arrangements for the baby.
As if this wasn’t enough, while driving with her roommate, J’s car tire blew out. Now, in addition to coping with her grief and arranging for a funeral, J is without a car and facing the challenge of how to pay for the funeral, rent, and food. She’s unable to work while grieving, and her 19th birthday is just a week away.
She needs help to cover funeral costs, car repairs, rent, and daily essentials. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kindness and support during this incredibly difficult time.
