We are working towards bringing home a gold medal as we represent the USA at the 2015 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Sochi, Russia.
Our two - person team in this new discipline of the sport consists of Korey Dropkin and Sarah Anderson, with Wayne Anderson as Team USA Coach. Bio's are below.
Korey Dropkin, of Southborough, MA, is a 19-year old student at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, specializing in Business and Mathematics. He is committed to excellence in academics with a 3.7 GPA, as well as to the sport of Curling. His world level experience began when he led Team USA in the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, where he won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles event with a Russian female partner. He competed at the 2012 and 2013 Junior Worlds as US Junior National Champion. In addition he was a member of Team USA at the 2013 Winter World University Games held in Trentino, Italy. Korey was named 2012 Male Curling Athlete of the Year. Korey's other interests include Soccer, Golf, Fishing and Hiking.
Sarah Anderson, of Broomall, PA, is a 20-year old student at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and is majoring in Nursing. Her home club is the Philadelphia Curling Club in Paoli. Sarah was named as 6th player for 2014 U.S. Women's Olympic Team. She was the alternate for the Women's World Curling Championship in 2013. She was a silver medalist at the US Junior Nationals in 2014 and placed 4th in 2013. Sarah finished 5th with Team USA at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. She also competed at the 2013 and 2014 U.S. Women's National Championships. Sarah's other interests include Tennis, movies and spending time with friends and family.
Wayne Anderson has been coaching juniors at the Philadelphia Curling Club since starting the program in 1993. Teams developed in the program have regularly qualified for the US Junior Nationals. In 2014 both the silver medalist junior men's and junior women's teams included Philadelphia juniors. Wayne co-coached the 2012 US Youth Olympic Trials Champions including daughters Sarah and Taylor, Korey Dropkin and Tom Howell. He also coached a team consisting of four of his daughters at the 2014 US Women's Nationals. Wayne enjoyed having a supporting role in the production of the USCA publication "The Five Elements of Curling".
Expenses:
We need your help to fund our trip to Sochi, Russia! Our fundraising goal of $3,500 represents 50% of the team's estimated unfunded expenses. The United States Curling Association will partially fund our travel costs with proceeds from the US Championship event.
