Beautiful Juan Caceres Carreño Celebration of Life

First off, we’d like to thank you all so much for taking the time. As you all know, we suffered the sudden and jarring loss of our beloved Juan on Friday, August 19th. As you can imagine, many of us are still in utter shock, and some will be there for a very long time. Juan meant a whole lot to too many of us. People are reading this right now who have a career because of something Juan helped put together, whether it be a film festival or producing a project. He was one of our fiercest and staunchest allies in the film world. And not to mention wildly talented. IYKYK. All about his peeps and furthering Latino and POC representation in our industry.

But that’s just the industry side of it.

Many of us will miss the long conversations at night. The nourishment of our souls by just his mere presence and/or words, alone. He found a way to make many of us believe a little deeper in ourselves and gave us hope during dark times. And not just in art but in life, as well. If I (Bobby DeJesus a.k.a. Jose V.) sound like it's personal right now, you’re damned right it is. He was my brother. And I imagine that many of us share my account of this. He was spiritual family. He was love. He was that judgement-free sanctuary I knew I had, as an ACE up my sleeve, should I ever need it. And boy, did I ever need it, at times. A guiding light of love for too many of us. And now, it’s simply too hard to believe that we have to send him off to that place where all of the ancestors are ready to receive and embrace him. To heaven, if there is such a thing. Wherever that place is, where the energy of love resides simultaneously, there and in our hearts, is precisely where I imagine him being.

So, please... If you can, help us send him off the right way. As you can imagine, this is quite an unexpected and significant financial burden on his family. Let's make that burden disappear. It’s the least we can do after being given so much love. Any amount you can afford is the right amount. I know we’re living in rough times, but help is needed. And if we may ask one last favor in this, please share this campaign, whether you can donate or not.
