Juanita Kuhns Curiel Benefit

Juanita is a vibrant 26 year old who got married in May. Brandon and Juanita were excited about finally settling into their new home and starting their life together in Illinois. Juanita started battling severe stomach pain at the beginning of August. At the beginning of September, she started having dizziness, blurred vision, light
and skin sensitivity, seizures and she wasn't able to keep food down. After visiting many local doctors and failing to find any answers Juanita was admitted to Mayo Clinic. The team of neurologists at Mayo were finally able to diagnose her with an autoimmune disease called Neuropsychiatric SLE. In simple terms this is a form of lupus that attacks the brain. She has a very long road to recovery. Her neurology & rheumatology team have full faith that she can live a healthy, normal, long life as long as she continues treatment.
She was released to come home Oct. 10th. She is taking strong doses of steroid treatments, seizure medication, medication for a stomach ulcer and other medications. They will be working with local doctors who can do follow-ups testing and monitoring, but will need to return to Mayo occasionally for ongoing treatments. Regaining her full health will be a full time job - visiting physical therapists, occupational therapists, having blood draws, neurologists, and rheumatologists.
The financial needs include out of pocket medical expenses, travel and hotels, and added living expenses. She will not be allowed to work or drive until she is seizure free for 3-6 months. Juanita, Brandon, and their families want to say thank you to everyone who has provided meals, emotional support, and for the many prayers. Please continue to pray for her complete healing.
