Judi's Legacy Run-In Shed @ Misty Manor

Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” The unique thing about Judi Reinke was that she did both.

Judi created and ran Misty Manor stable for more than 50 years helping countless horses and just as many people. Judi had an inherent belief that the right horse and rider should be paired so that they would become a team but that the horse would have a "forever home." To ensure that happened, Judi, took the time to work with each buyer in order to make the perfect match.

Proof of how much Judi Reinke cared about horses was demonstrated not only by the number of horses rescued and rehomed at Misty Manor, but also by her helpfulness to boarders and visitors and by her continued help and guidance to those who purchases horses from Misty Manor. No matter how long you had the horse, if you had a question or needed help, Judi picked up the phone.

But Judi’s horse-human paring did not stop there. Over the course of many years, Judi, with her miniature horse Ralf, visited and brought gifts to thousands residents in Maryland nursing homes. And on bitter winter nights, she and friends set up a soup kitchen in a truck on the streets of Baltimore or Washington and handed out soup, goodies and clothing.

Judi held an annual Play Day fund-raiser at Misty Manor that benefited nursing home residents and the homeless in Maryland. Games, contests, food and riding competitions were available for those who came out and riders could bring their own horses to compete or they could rent a horse from Misty Manor. The event was packed every year, and both proceeds and donated gifts from those Play Days brought smiles and joyful hearts to many of Maryland’s elderly and destitute.

Not only did Judi bring Ralf on holiday visits, but she opened up her farm to nursing-home residents who wanted to ride. And of course, Misty Manor was visited by countless Maryland school children and by both girl scout and boy scout troops, some looking just to ride and some working on badges.

Misty Manor has long been a place of comfort, compassion and caring in, and for, Maryland. Judi was the core of Misty Manor. We invite you to visit Judi Reinke’s Facebook page and read the testimonies there…as nearly every one says, “Thank you.”

So now we are giving back by building a memorial in honor of Judi and her efforts. A few years before her death the run-in shelter in the front field toppled in heavy snow. It is being rebuilt as a tribute and to carry on her life’s work of caring for horses. We invite you to join us in building this new run-in and continuing Judi’s legacy.
