Help Lay Judith Ann Jaecques Hess to Rest

Hey Everyone, my name is Caitlin Hess. This fundraiser is for my Amazing Mother, Judy Hess. I am youngest of her 3 children.

Oldest: Gregory Lawrence Hess

Middle: Amelia Ann Hess Williams

Baby: Caitlin Siobhan Hess

My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer last but she beat the odds, achieving remission and was doing so well until about 3 weeks ago, on my sisters birthday, my dad took her to the hospital because she couldn't breathe. After 3 days on a ventilator in the icu we find out she has double pneumonia! This on top of a compromised immune system and severe COPD. She had worked so hard after the chemotherapy and made so much progress cutting down her smoking habit.

Fast forward to Christmas Day; her numbers are looking good and she isnt requiring as much oxygen. The doctor seems hopeful but in order to continue treatment she needs a surgery to put the tube in her throat. We decide this will give her the best chance so we have the surgery scheduled for the next day, December 26, my parents 48th anniversary.

The surgery went well, and I got to be there for my dad during the procedure(I'm not sure which of us was more nervous).

We had a few bad days and a couple really good days but shes still not very responsive. Then on Monday January 8th my dad calls me and tells me I need to come see her.

She is requiring 100% oxygen and still gasping for air. They just can't get the fluid out of her lungs and she's just too weak to keep fighting. So we decided as a family that the next morning they will give her some pain medication and take her off the ventilator.

10:57am, January 9, 2024 my mother takes her last breath, leaving the world a little darker.
