Fundraiser for Judith Mok

Six weeks ago, the O’Loughlin family was confronted with the horrifying reality that Judith’s cancer has returned in her spine, brain, lung and bones. For her friends and family, it has been impossible to wrap our heads around what the future will entail, especially for a woman who has given us all so much. Nobody ever wants to be in this position, but today, we’re reaching out to ask for your help and support as Judith faces the most difficult battle of her life.

A pillar in the Irish arts community, she has dedicated her entire life to music, literature and teaching. She has published many novels and poetry collections in Dutch and English, sang in the world's greatest opera houses and coached some of the greatest musicians in the country and beyond, imparting her wisdom and technique to younger generations. She inspires everyone she encounters with her passion, wit and wisdom. She delights in sharing art and education with those around her, and has overcome much adversity in pursuit of a rich and full life and career. Now, Judith and her family need the support of her community.

Like so many artists, Judith relies on her creative work to make a living, and as she undergoes treatment and tries to adapt to what life looks like now, she is unable to perform or teach. Without the ability to work, her financial situation is precarious, and she and her family face an overwhelming burden just to cover new expenses and the ever-growing medical and medical equipment expenses. We want to make sure Judith gets whatever she needs to make her life comfortable during this extremely difficult and significant time. We’ve set up this GoFundMe as a way to help Judith manage these expenses, so she can focus her energy on healing and recovery. All funds raised will go directly toward covering essential medical costs and day-to-day living expenses so she can stay comfortable and safe during her treatment. As just one example, a necessary item like a Sara Steady hoist to assist in safely moving around the house costs €2000.

Judith has been there for all of us—whether it be through her inimitable sense of humour, her music, her profound ability to tell a story, or her efforts to make her community a better, more beautiful place during difficult times. It is almost impossible to sum up the impact that Judith has had on the Irish arts community. Now, we have an opportunity to repay her in even a small way, with support and care in her time of need.
