Judo Club 70th Anniversary Cultural trip to Japan

Donation protected
The Steveston Judo Club will be celebrating its 70th Anniversary in 2023.

This momentous milestone will coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Steveston Martial Arts center (copy and paste this link into your browser) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiHYAZV2lX0

This means that 2023 will mark 70 years of continuous and uninterrupted volunteer service by the club to the community of Steveston, the City of Richmond, Judo BC and Judo Canada.

To celebrate these two very special anniversaries the Steveston Judo Club is planning to send a multi-generational delegation of athletes and Senseis (instructors) to the birthplace of judo. This group will include some of the Steveston Judo Club’s original members and Senior Senseis. The trip will take place in March of 2024, and will include visits to famous Judo training centres throughout Japan. Students will also visit Wakayama, where much of Steveston's early Japanese community came from. Athletes and instructors pay their own way. Unfortunately, the past two years of COVID have made it more difficult for the Club to fundraise as it done in the past, the goal of this fundraiser is to offset some of the expenses.

Since its inception, the Steveston Judo Club has always been a non-profit organization, relying on volunteer instructors and board members - there are no paid positions in the club. Club volunteers contribute many hours of service outside of the club supporting local events like the Salmon Festival and the Steveston Farmer's Market.

For this reason, we are reaching out to the community of Steveston, the City of Richmond and the judo community across British Columbia and Canada to give them the opportunity to give back to the Club which has given so many years of service.

We are now accepting donations to our Go Fund Me Page in hopes that we can make this once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan possible. We are hoping to raise $50,000 by June 30 2023.

Any contributions are greatly appreciated, and will help our students have an invaluable cultural experience of a lifetime.

Sincere thanks for the Steveston Judo Club
