Help Julia Get To Amsterdam!

Hi everyone! For those of you who may not already know me, I'm Julia Metzler, a Los Angeles-based opera singer. I did my undergraduate studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and I am currently in my first year of my Master's of Music at UCLA.

Next year is going to be an extremely important one for me in terms of career-building. After I graduate from UCLA, I'll need to be able to hit the ground running and take as many auditions as possible, both in the US and abroad. It's really useful to have as many pre-existing professional contacts as possible when I do that, which is why I'm asking for your help!

I'm fundraising money to fly to Amsterdam this summer to compete in the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition. This major competition has helped to launch the careers of many world-renowned opera stars. However, there is another exciting element to this competition, even for those who do not win: Dozens of opera agents and casting directors for opera houses from all over the world attend this competiton to observe and scout for up-and-coming singers to cast in their productions. The potentional benefits of participating in a competition like this are enormous.

After I participate in the Belvedere competition, I am arranging to meet with some coaches from several European opera houses to introduce myself and get a better feeling for the European opera "scene."

Here is my cost break-down for this trip:

$1300 for roundtrip airfare to Amsterdam. (Now purchased - THANK YOU!!!)
$1000 for one month of inexpensive housing throughout Europe via AirBnB or similar.
$300 for a Eurail pass for traveling between countries
$200 for food.
$200 application for for the Belvedere competition.
