Julian Medrano's Medical Expenses

UPDATE: 8/6/23
Julian is at home recovering but requires close daily monitoring of his weight due to Nephratic Syndrome: A kidney disorder that causes the body to excrete too much protein in the urine.
Nephrotic syndrome is often caused by damage to small blood vessels in the kidneys that filter waste and excess water from the blood. An underlying health condition usually plays a role.
He has also been diagnosed with Prothrombin Gene Mutation: Prothrombin gene mutation (or Factor II mutation or Prothrombin G20210A) is an inherited condition that increases your predisposition to develop abnormal blood clots in the veins (deep vein thrombosis or DVT) and lungs (pulmonary embolism or PE). This happens because your body makes more of the Factor II (prothrombin) protein than you need for normal clot formation.
Thankfully Julian has not developed any new blood clots but he still has a lot of blood clots in his right kidney. He was placed on more medication to hopefully dissolve the blood clots.
In the next two months he will have a kidney biopsy and have his heart surgery scheduled.
UPDATE: 7/24/23 Julian has been moved to ICU from PICU with the hopes of being discharged today. Unfortunately some tests are coming back and showing his right kidney is not filtering properly and is leaking fluids into his abdomen.
We also learned in the future he will need surgery to close the hole in his heart. Please continue to pray for Julian and our family!
Hi, my name is Jesse Padilla and I am fundraising for my 14 yr old nephew Julian Medrano. On July 8th he began having abdominal pain. He was taken to CHI hospital in Omaha where many tests were ran. They thought it could be appendicitis but shifted to possible constipation. He was discharged with OTC meds but his pain persisted for a few more days then subsided.
On July 18th we were notified he was back in the ER for severe abdominal pain and was vomiting but this time was taken to Children's Medical Center in Omaha. After 12 hrs we found out Julian was experiencing Renal Artery Trombosis which caused blood clots in his right kidney and in both lungs. He was admitted to the PICU at Children's.
Due to the blood clot in his right kidney being located in his aorta vein, Julian began to experience right kidney failure and there was a strong possibility he could lose his right kidney. He was placed on blood thinners immediately but the blood thinners did not dissolve the blood clots so he was placed on TPA meds. The TPA meds eventually began to work but again not without complications. On top of that Julian has a hole in his heart since child birth that now added to this ordeal. Doctors were worried the clots could travel to his heart or worse his brain.
During this entire time Julian's breathing was compromised and experienced excruciating back pain. He was given strong narcotics that made him sick due to the side effects.
He has undergone so many blood tests, several ultrasounds, CT's and MRI's with 2 ER visits and 5 days in the Children's PICU so far.
But God is good! Today July 23rd Julian was able to get up and walk around the hospital and will be placed in a general hospital room with the hopes of being discharged in a couple days.
The doctors do not know what caused the Renal Artery Trombosis. They said they have never seen this in a child his age. The bloodwork and tests could take weeks to come back with results.
Julian's life will not be the same. His right kidney function has not worsened but it also has not increased. He could be on blood thinners for life which means this 14 yr old boy who loves sports especially football may never be able to step foot on a football field again.
My sister Lupita, Willie, Iza and Julian are great people. Loving and caring who need support right now. These medical expenses will be tremendously high. They recently moved back to Omaha with Lupita barely being at her new job 1 month and Willie starting his new job this Monday July 24th.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
