Juliana Casey - A Most Beautiful Life

"There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains..."

Our hearts are broken as we mourn the tragic loss of our beloved Juliana.  In the very early morning hours of May 6, 2020, before a 4:00 am dialysis appointment, Juliana lost her life in a car accident.  Juju, as she was known to her family and all those who loved her dearly, was 29 years young.  She had a soul of such sweetness, such kindness, such humility and grace.  Her attitude was like  the essence of a sweet perfume.  She had a smile that was so bright and big.  Her laugh was infectious.  Her voice was gentle and angelic.  Her hugs and embraces were the most sincere.  She was an inspiration and an example for us all.

As many of you know, Juliana battled Lupus for many years.  As a result, she endured a failed kidney transplant (actually a successful transplant but the precious kidney donated by a dear friend was burned by her sensitivities to the anti rejection  drugs), was told that she no longer qualified for another transplant, and endured dialysis several times a week.  She was told at the time of her late diagnosis that her life expectancy was 10 years but she defied all the odds and was on pace to more than double that prognosis.  She had been patiently waiting to participate in a clinical trial for an artificial kidney.  In spite of her condition, she faced her future with perseverance and humility.  The source of her strength was her ability to hope and her faith in God.

"You can choose to be happy," said Juliana, sitting in her Aunt and Uncle's home.  "It's much better that way. I was expected to die maybe six times.  I'm 10 years on dialysis.  The average life span of a dialysis patient is three to five years.  I can't control what happens to me, but I can control how I react to what happens to me.  I prefer to be happy."

And then this tragedy occurred.

During this COVID-19 quarantine, Juju  self-isolated from friends and family which prevented her from having any income for months. In this devastatingly difficult time, we request your support in helping her parents, Dan and Kathy Casey.  Your generosity will help defray the expenses for the funeral and the many expenses that arise as a result of this tragedy.  It will help cover medical costs associated with her life -long illness.  Due to her uninsurability  the family has incurred  a tremendous amount of debt. Any proceeds remaining will be donated to her favorite cause,The Kidney Project, whose mission is to create a bioartificial kidney.
