Julian's Road To a Stronger Heart

Donation protected
Julian Koch was born the fifth child to J.R. and Sarah Koch on April 30, 2017.   When Julian was 3 weeks old he turned purple head to toe while sitting in his chair. He was rushed to Moose Jaw emergency and then sent to  Regina.  After a few days in Regina he was diagnosed with AVSD and told he would require open heart surgery.  Shortly after coming to terms with the fact their precious new baby required open heart surgery they were told that this condition tends to go hand in hand with Down syndrome.  Genetic testing confirmed that Julian was a child with Down syndrome.   Julian is loved by his family and this genetic testing doesn't change a thing.  With this surgery we all pray he will grow to live an amazing life, bringing joy to those around him.  Following the AVSD diagnosis Julian was sent home on medications to support his heart while he gained weight to become strong enough to face the surgery.

In addition to incurring medical expenses for Julian's travel to Regina and Saskatoon for doctor's appointments the family has suffered financially because Julian's dad J.R. has been able to work a very limited amount.  He himself began to suffer medical problems around the time Julian was diagnosed.  After many doctor visits and diagnostic testing the family was told this week that J.R. has been diagnosed with MS.  What this means for his future is unknown at this time as they are awaiting visits to Wascana Rehab in Regina to learn exactly how this will affect him.

Julian, J.R. and Sarah will travel to Edmonton Sept. 18th to prepare for the heart surgery Julian will have on Sept 20th.  The recovery period will be a minimum of 12-14 days.  They will leave their other 4 children at home to be taken care of by family.

This family has been through alot to say the least.  They have a big hurdle in front of them.  And the unknown of how Julian will recover and what follow up care he will require is a heavy burden to bear.

J.R. and Sarah need financial help.  They are humble, kind people.  I want to be their voice and advocate and ask everyone who can relate to their story, who has compassion for what they are going through or who is looking for that good deed to do this day or week to please give what you can.

This money will be used responsibly; to help with their expenses for Julian's care and to help with their other family needs.
