Julia's Dance Dream, Texas 2016

Donation protected
Hi.  My name is Julia Makana Schwartz.  I am 12 years old from San Clemente, California.  I love to DANCE.   My dream is to attend American Ballet Theater's (ABT) Summer Intensive Program at the University of Texas in Austin.  I want to go to ABT because I want to pursue my dance training while also learning to be independent and hard working.  With living in the dorms and waking up every day to go to dance classes, I am benefiting my hard work ethic and dedication to dance and life goals.   ABT is going to help me learn and achieve things I never thought I could do.

I love dance because dance is a way for me to express how I am feeling deep down with the movement of my body.  Dancing will clear my mind as soon as I step on the dance floor.  Getting the exercise and the passionate feeling inside, I can dance and do what I love.  The Dance Studio is known as my second home or my safe place where I can just be myself.

Although my parents are very supportive, I am the youngest of five children, so paying for ABT is challenging.  I want to do anything I can to help with the costs. I have applied to several scholarship programs.  Three of my best dance friends were also accepted at ABT Texas.  We are fundraising together.   We call it Project ABT Texas.  The fundraising I am doing with my friends, is going to definitely help at the end.  Earning the money makes me feel better inside and makes me feel like I earned and deserved this awesome opportunity.  Together with my friends, Bella, Ella, and Taylor - we can bounce around ideas to help make our dreams of ABT come true.  Our  Project ABT Texas ideas are selling frozen treats on the beaches and parks of San Clemente,  a 50/50  drawing and much more.  The four of us are hosting a Parents' Night Out at the Dance Studio too.  I never thought I was capable of selling and being so independent with earning money, until I put my mind to it.  Project ABT Texas has helped me overcome my fears and taught me that I can do it.

This experience means so much to me.  Going away for four weeks to the University of Texas in Austin is going to teach me many lessons. Having to go away from my family will be hard.   Being the youngest  in a big family, doing things independently does not come easy for me.  Going to ABT is going to change that.  Not only am I improving my dancing but I am learning so much more - to be independent, patient, strong, and determined. I am so happy I was accepted to the ABT Summer Intensive Program in Texas.   This is my dream and an experience of a lifetime!

All funds will benefit my amazing opportunity to attend ABT Summer Intensive in Austin, Texas July 9 - August 6, 2016.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I am forever greatful to my family and all of you for helping me achieve my Dance Dream.

"I prefer to earn it.  It makes me appreciate it more."
