To the friends, family and fans of Julie Strain: My name is Kelli, I am setting up a GoFundMe page to assist my brother with the cost of Julie’s caregiver assistants and medical expenses due to late-stage dementia. JULIE’S CURRENT DISEASE and CARE CONDITION This incurable disease has shown me a side of both Julie and my brother that deepens my love of their amazing character and love for each other. In addition, this disease that Julie is experiencing has also shown the undying love from her friends and fans. Your Facebook messages continue to bring a light to her spirit whenever David shares and reads to her your comments and messages of love, support, prayers, best wishes, and good vibes for both of them. In addition, she appreciates you remembering her precious dogs- her pets have always been close to her heart. Thank you. DISEASE and CARE COSTS GOING FORWARD As most of you know, Julie’s health continues to decline due to her diagnosis of late-stage dementia. Late-stage dementia requires extensive care and support by professionals. She is now receiving support 12 hours each day, 7 days a week. A diagnosis of dementia means the disease will only advance going forward; there are no cures for dementia, presently. Currently, this care has created huge financial consequences, totaling $8,500 dollars each month. Because her condition has worsened and her care has increased, we know that in time, she will require 24 hour professional medical care. We continue to be optimistic about Julie’s longevity and are needing to consider other medical-assistive equipment, such as a hospital bed with more adjustments, especially for sitting up. Also, a better Hoyer Lift to provide easier access to her wheelchair for her backyard visits. The cost of these beds are approximately $3,500 dollars, and a better Hoyer Lift costs approximately $1,500. Although her bed and Hoyer Lift from hospice are adequate, we would like to upgrade. An upgraded bed does not come with hospice services. HOME CONDITION GOING FORWARD Julie and Dave spoke often about their health concerns before and after becoming “life partners” and promised each other their support going forward. Julie’s desire is to be allowed to receive this care in the comfort of her own home and surrounded by what she called “people”. Two of her “people” as mentioned earlier are shown in the pictures to the left: Falina & Kya, her miniature grey hounds. She loved all her dogs as one would love a child. Also, Falina and Kya bring her immense joy: Julie continues asking about their care, and they keep asking for and giving her their love. My brother is dedicated to fulfill this promise to her. WE ARE GRATEFUL I personally cannot express enough, the pleasure of visiting with Julie. I am aware of her special spirit of inner love and beauty, and, this is a love and a beauty that she expressed to everyone she has ever met. She seems to have a gift to bring joy to so many. We all are grateful beyond words and want to thank all of you for your moral support.
