Julie's BladeRunner Prosthetic Trip
My name is Julie, I am hoping to raise money to help with my travel expenses to get fitted with my Blade Runner prosthetic leg.
I was in a car accident in August of 2007. After being ejected from my car, it landed on top of me, and I was pinned under the still running cars exhaust for an hour. I was left with severe burns on both of my legs and feet. This resulted in moving half of my abdominal muscles, and one of my lat muscles to my legs cover some of the burns and the amputation of my right leg below the knee.
I was finally able to start running again in January 2014. I got a crazy idea and immediately starting training for my first half marathon (13.1 miles). September of that year, I did just that. :)
Training for that race was difficult, as my current prosthetic is as basic as they come, and not meant for running. That summer I had applied for a Blade Runner prosthetic. I did not hear back, and assumed I did not get chosen. In the summer of 2015 I was blessed to have met, then strangers, Brent and Tessa. Brent contacted Amputee Blade Runners (ABR) and raised money to get me approved for a new running prosthetic.
I will be making the 7 day, 1,200 mile trip in March to get fitted with my new prosthetic!! I am also bringing along my husband, and my prosthetist. I am needing help with the travel--airfare, hotel, rental car--for all 3 of us for the duration of the trip.
I am so thankful for Brent and Tessa going above and beyond to help me after only knowing me a few days. I am thankful for every single person (friend, family, stranger) who already donated to get me this amazingly rare opportunity to receive a Blade Runner. I have been blessed by so much generosity and support throughout this journey. I have been dreaming of a running prosthetic since I was in ICU after my accident.
I truly appreciate anything you can give. THANK YOU!
