My name is June Williams. You may know me as a local jazz singer from my past performances in Nevada County, CA. My husband, Bob, was also well known for his trumpet playing. In November 1997, Bob had a catastrophic stroke that left him without the ability to walk, talk, read or write and completely paralyzed his right side. I have been his caregiver for 22 years. Although he can talk now and even play his trumpet a bit, I am not able to leave him alone as he still needs help with even his basic needs.

Recently, I found out that I have uterine cancer. My doctor says I need surgery as soon as possible before it has the chance to spread. Bob needs 24-hour care. After surgery, I will not be able to lift for eight weeks. Bob is 6’ 1” tall and 220 pounds, so I desperately need the funds to hire professional help to attend to his daily needs and to help me during my recovery process.
Thank you for considering helping us. Any gift will be greatly appreciated!
My philosophy is that everyday is a new day!!! So each day I'm going to wake up, take a deep breath, sing a song and count my blessings!!!!
Love to you all,
June

JUNE WILLIAMS - singer, songwriter, arranger, musician
"Incomparable" is the word most often used to describe the talented singer/songwriter. June Williams sings with diamond clarity, torch style, jazzy blues phrasing and with warm breathy melodies that embrace the very soul of the song.
June Williams was born and raised in Redwood City, CA. Her musical talent was first discovered when she played "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with one finger on the piano at age 2- 1/2. Her mother, a piano teacher, recognized her gift and immediately started teaching her music by number. By the age of five, June had her first gig playing the organ once a week in a San Carlos music store window.

In addition to lessons, her mother would take her to the Circle Star Theater in Redwood City every month to expose her to the performing arts. When she experienced a Judy Garland concert at 8 years old, June immediately told her mother she wanted to sing. Her mother booked her at the local American Legion Hall with a friend who was a professional organist and June brought the house down!
June sang on San Francisco Bay dinner cruises and at the Cabana in Palo Alto with an eight-piece Dixieland band when she was 16. The hotel was built in 1962 by entrepreneur Jay Sarno and Doris Day was one of the original investors. The flashy, Roman-themed design was apparently the blueprint for Caesar's Palace. The Cabana has a permanent place in South Bay mythology because The Beatles stayed there when they played San Francisco in 1965. At 17, she joined a five-girl band that consisted of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young-style harmonies. Before she was 18, June had her first steady gig singing five nights a week with a Top 40 band at the Black Angus Lounge in San Jose.
June met her husband, Bob Williams, a trumpet player with the Bobby Charles Quartet, while performing at the Black Angus and they have been an inseparable team ever since! They soon had two children, Faith and Nate. June decided to be a hands-on mother but still managed to sing and perform at local hotels and restaurants. A high point of this time in her life was the October, 1992 concert at the Miners Foundry billed as "June in October." A sell-out, June ended the night with four encores!
Once their children became adults and moved away from home to start their own journey of life, it was time for June and Bob to get back to their passion of music. June entertained thousands of people at events for Google, Atlantis, Harrah’s, Nugget, Caesar’s and she was blessed with the opportunity to perform with jazz artists such as Joe Pass, Carl Saunders, Wynton Marsalis, Bill Anderson, Richie Cole, Herb Jeffries, Carl Fontana and Bobby Shew.
June and Bob were comfortable in their lives, finally experiencing some success. But one day in November 1997, their lives would change forever. Bob suffered a massive stroke that affected the whole left lobe of his brain and left him without the ability to walk, talk, read or write and completely paralyzed his right side.
June has been devoted to Bob since day one. She took on the responsibility as sole caregiver and support for her husband. It took Bob two months just to re-learn how to swallow again and accomplish simple tasks such as pushing a button. Twenty-two years later, after years of rehab and therapy, Bob still needs assistance with all his daily needs. June has always had perseverance, a positive attitude and strong faith in God, which has allowed her to accept these challenges with a smile.
June has always put her family first. She was offered to open for Bob Newhart but unfortunately had to graciously back out when her elderly mother broke her shoulder and fractured her back. June cared for her mother until she died at 87. She also took on the responsibility of her disabled brother for 15 years after her dad died.
June recently found out she has uterine cancer. The doctor thinks he found it in time at an early stage but recommends a full hysterectomy operation as soon as possible. Now June is the one who needs to be taken care of. She’s not used to that.
June still has the full responsibility of taking care of her husband as his sole caregiver, which is her dilemma. Recovery time expected is 8 weeks. Bob is 6’ 1” tall and 220 pounds, so June desperately needs the funds to hire professional help to attend to her husband’s needs and also to help her through the duration of her recovery process.
Please help June raise enough money to cover expenses to hire a professional agency she has chosen to take care of herself and her husband during her recovery.
The message June wants to send to everyone is this:
"Never give up on your talents and dreams, no matter what your age! No matter what your challenges may be!!!! It's never too late! Life is a journey. I know with your help, I will be rid of this devastating disease called cancer."
