Retired Police Officer In Need

Donation protected

For those of you who know me, I am a hardworking and kindhearted man; a retired New York City Police Officer, loving husband to my wife Kathy of twenty years, and proud father of my children who are now young adults beginning their families and careers.
After fulfilling twenty years on the NYPD, a majority in the subway as a Field Training Officer, I explored contracting and consulting with a private company and on my own.  I have always maintained the integrity to honor the family and help those in need as we are able. My children have always seen us cook enough food to have friends  come to the table, no questions asked.

In 2010, I required my first back surgery due to degenerative disc disease. After six of months of physical therapy, I was able to return to work. However, my range of motion had forever changed.

Over the years, pain increased in my legs and hips, and after much consultation, the journey began to begin preliminary treatments to prepare for a much larger procedure in 2020.  I required a hip replacement in 2019 which was unexpected. The recovery was over seven months and required Physical Therapy three days per week.   During this time, I missed much work due to surgery and recovery, and was cleared to return after eight months. This loss of employment, as well as the sporadic missed time due to treatments and flare ups took a toll on the family financially.

The decision for a second spinal surgery came about in December of 2019. Prior to this I experienced Diabetic Ketoacidosis and required Emergency Hospitalization, due to the steroid treatments administered for the back pain. I didn't previously have a diagnosis of Type II Diabetes and was unaware that the sucrose in the medication had this potential. I am currently battling stabilization of this new diagnosis due to those treatments.

The second spinal surgery occurred on January of 2020, a total spinal fusion after removing the previous rod placed in 2010. The surgery itself took 14 hours. I spent two weeks in the ICU and was discharged to a skilled nursing facility for two additional weeks for rehabilitation. Then I was discharged home to continue outpatient Physical Therapy two days per week.

I am currently recovering, however this procedure has rendered me disabled with the need to use medical equipment to get around at times. I have not worked over the past two years and have exhausted all financial resources.

In addition to my recovery, my wife Kathy has just been diagnosed with Stage 4, end stage COPD and Emphysema. I am now providing care for her; taking her to her medical appointments to be evaluated by her Primary Care Physician and Pulmonologist, as we begin to journey through her prognosis, treatments and various other needs.

My Ask for Help:

Due to being unable to work and the medical bills for hospitalizations, I have been unable to catch up on the monthly bills and find myself in unrecoverable debt. I am asking for financial assistance.
Your support will help reduce another significant stress as I continue to regain my strength during recovery. With your gracious support, I hope to regain financial stability as I take the next steps into a healthy future with my family.

Please share this page to help reach the goal.

Thank you for your gratitude and God Bless You.
