Jurhs House Fire

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Becca Johnstone and I am setting this account up on behalf of my sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Michael Jurhs.

Yesterday afternoon Sarah was working at her job as a Clark County 911 dispatcher when a co-worker took the call for a structure fire; it was Sarah's address. She screamed that it was her house, to please let the firefighters know their beloved dog Kayak was in there, grabbed her keys and ran out. She called Michael sobbing as she raced home; he had been at Costco. Both of them could see the smoke as they sped toward the fire. Their street was blocked with fire engines and first responders, the house was completely engulfed in flames.

We were all completely devastated to hear that Kayak did not survive the fire. She made her way to the basement, far from the flames, but the smoke was too much. Our hearts are broken.

Sarah and Michael have lost everything. Their boys are young adults living their own lives, but they have also lost their home and their dog. We can't even begin to comprehend what the coming days, weeks, months will look like. Sarah and Michael are in a hotel for now. We don't know what lies ahead with insurance and how you go about rebuilding your entire life, but right now they have only the clothes on their backs, each other, and their community surrounding them in love and prayer.

If you know my sister, you know she believes wholeheartedly in living generously. She is the first to show up when tragedy strikes, to sit with the grieving, to quietly do what is needed. As for my brother in law Michael, he has spent the last 18 years working for PeaceHealth, and he too is one of the first to step up and help where it is needed. When the devastating fires happend in Lahaina, Michael immediately began finding ways to financially support the residents on Maui, Michael and Sarah's favorite place.

Please donate what you can to help with the essentials and ease the mental and emotional burden as they navigate the unthinkable. They have a long road ahead, their son Jacob is set to graduate from college in 2 weeks, and their oldest son Joshua is getting married in September. Michael and Sarah were excited to spend the summer hosting family celebrations for their sons, and now will need to pivot their time, energy, and focus on starting over.

If you are more comfortable with Venmo, Sarah's handle is @Sarah-Jurhs and the last four digits of her phone number are 5487.

Please continue to keep the Jurhs family in your prayers. Thank you all for your love and support.
