Just Joe Benson
Just Joe was never Just Joe. He was so much more to his friends. He was so much more.
Just Joe was hiking the Yellow Trail at Island Lake Recreation Area on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 and leading the weekly Humpday Workout Hike. Joe started out at a good pace with friends laughing and talking. He was planning our next adventure for Sunday: a 15 mile paddle down the Huron River through the Delhi Rapids, around the Barton Dam, and through the Argo Cascades. Even though it’s still early spring and the chances of getting wet are high, he felt we were all up to the challenge!
Sadly, Joe did not finish that hike. However, he was surrounded by friends and doing what he loved. Joe’s kindness, generosity of spirit and smile are known to many people. He was active as both a charismatic leader and member in several groups, including Active in Detroit, Kayak Owners Recreation Group and Michigan Adventurers Club, fondly known as MAC.
Joe encouraged his friends to do their best, to reach beyond the limitations we placed on ourselves and to be positive and optimistic in our interactions with others.
Joe helped so many of us. Now it’s our turn to help Joe’s family. We are asking you to help with the funeral and other expenses that are being incurred as a result of Joe’s passing. Your gifts will go to Emily Benson, Joe’s oldest daughter, to help pay for the funeral and other end-of-life costs.
