My name is Mumtahanah Williams-Ansari. I am the mother of slain Indigenous rights activist Muriyd 'Two Clouds' Williams, and the founder and owner of the nonprofit organizations Beyond Clouds and Women Are Medicine Health Initiative.

This is Mohawk elder, Kanankwiio. Indigenous rights activist, master builder, educator, and dear family friend.

Not only was Kanankwiio the sole person who lived nonstop with my son Two Clouds through two frigid winters on the Ramapough religious land fighting to keep it in the hands of the tribe, and to ensure a corporate pipeline not be forced onto the entire community... he also braved nearly four years in jail while in his very late sixties because he refused to bow down or throw other Natives under the bus.

When Kanankwiio was released a few months before Two Clouds' murder in 2022, they lived together again, and he was counting on my son's continued love and support in helping him become reacclimated with society. Unfortunately, thugs took that assistance away.

Now in his mid-seventies Kanankwiio is struggling with serious chronic, potentially fatal health issues that keep him from working. To make matters worse, both tribal and American governmental aid has been denied to him over and over again. He is living below the poverty line and is in dire straits.

Kanankwiio put his very health and freedom on the line for years in order to stand for others. Let us stand for him! We MUST ensure that our elders THRIVE, regardless to race, ethnicity, or creed.
