We are outsourced workers employed by Carlisle Support Services on the Northern gate-line contract taking strike action in pursuit of justice and equality in the rail industry.
We work alongside Northern Trains directly employed staff, carrying out exactly the same frontline role and wearing exactly the same uniforms, every day of the week.
Our jobs involve delivering a high standard of customer service, ensuring the safety and security of the travelling public and carrying out revenue duties.
The gulf in earnings between us and directly employed Northern Trains staff is widening each year while our employer denies us a meaningful pay rise.
We are excluded from joining the railway pension scheme, we receive no sick pay, we are being denied our legal allowance of holidays each year and have been denied RMT trade union recognition despite being core railway workers.
We are fighting to bring this injustice to an end.
We are the first faces many passengers see at the gate-line when travelling on the rail network and during times of service disruption it's us who bear the brunt of angry passengers, often leading to verbal abuse and in some cases physical assault.
This strike action is about receiving the recognition we deserve from our employer Carlisle Support Services. We want improvements in pay and conditions and parity with the colleagues.
We are are among the lowest paid workers within the rail industry whilst working the longest hours and working under some of the worst conditions of employment.
Most of us are working in excess of 60 hours each week as opposed to the 35 hour week our Northern trains colleagues are employed on. We have to work excessive long hours just to get by during the cost of living crisis we now find ourselves in.
Thank you for taking the time to read this leaflet and we hope you can support us in our fight for justice and equality at Northern Trains.
