On March 13, 2024, my world changed forever when my beautiful son, Chase, passed away just three days before his 8th birthday. Chase was more than my son—he was my heart and soul. No matter the obstacles life threw at me, he’d be right there to help me through it.
Chase LOVED music, his favorite song, "Dance Monkey," became the anthem of his joyful spirit. Whether he was showing off his moves, jamming on the guitar, or singing his little heart out, it was like witnessing him in his truest form.
He always knew how to make anyone smile, and his kind heart radiated in everything he did. Chase was incredibly smart, with a love for learning that was beyond his years. At just a first-grade level, there was nothing he couldn't read, and he approached the world with such curiosity and a vibrant outlook on life, wanting to explore and understand everything it had to offer.
But Chase’s life was tragically cut short due to a medical failure. After battling recurring ear infections, Chase was denied ear tubes during a critical moment. That one denial led to an infection spreading to his brain, even while he was on antibiotics. The week leading up to Chase's passing I had been to multiple doctors, pleading for the care he needed, but it wasn’t enough. If you ever had the chance to see Chase and I together you would've witnessed the unbreakable bond him and I had. The empty feeling of not knowing how to live life anymore. I don't think the pain of losing him will ever leave me.
The community treated us unfairly after my son’s passing, making it seem like we were somehow at fault, as if his death was a criminal act. Instead of offering support or compassion, many turned our pain into gossip and entertainment, further deepening our heartbreak during an already unimaginable time. Even after the results came back from the medical examiner's office.
The same community that has held countless fundraisers, benefits, and silent auctions for multiple families—and even organized events for the same individuals more than once—offered nothing for Chase, a sweet, loving 7-year-old boy. Even a simple request to plant a memorial tree in his honor was denied by the school, despite huge amount of space. It made it feel like my son meant nothing to a community that I've known for almost 3 decades. ( A small town).
Despite everything, I want to create something beautiful that will help others, just as Chase would have wanted. I am working to establish the Chase Your Dreams Foundation in his memory.
Chase Your Dreams Foundation:
The Chase Your Dreams Foundation is devoted to unlocking the potential within every child by providing them the means to pursue their passions—whether in sports, music, dance, or the arts. Inspired by the boundless dreams and loving spirit of Chase Butler, we believe that no dream should be left unfulfilled due to financial limitations. Our mission is to empower children to chase their dreams, nurture their talents, and shine, knowing that they are supported every step of the way.
Anybody that had the opportunity to meet Chase would have never forgotten him. This foundation is based on exactly what Chase was, a kind hearted boy with big dreams to help anyone he could.
Chase, the joy you brought to this world is something that should never fade. This foundation will keep his memory alive. I want to help children fulfill their dreams without any obstacles to stop them from a better future.
How You Can Help
This crowdfunding effort has two goals:
1. Justice for Chase
I am fighting tirelessly to hold those accountable who failed my son. No child should ever lose their life due to neglect or denial of basic care. Your support will help cover legal fees and advocacy efforts to ensure Chase’s story is heard and that no other family suffers this kind of loss.
2. Building the Chase Your Dreams Foundation
By donating, you will help us start this foundation in Chase’s honor, bringing hope and support to children and families in need. This is about spreading the kindness Chase embodied and ensuring his legacy lives on.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to justice for Chase and to building something meaningful in his memory. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign with others is a tremendous help. Together, we can honor Chase’s kind heart, his love for music and his dream to spread happiness
Thank you for supporting us through these tough times. I want to make him proud and show him we can make a difference.
With endless gratitude,
Sarah B.
