Justice for Colby: Support Legal Fees
Donation protected
This beautiful young man, Colby, died in the custody of St Anthony Idaho juvenile correction facility on November 25, 2019. The last conversation Colby had with his mother six hours before he passed away, was about the abuse and neglect he received from the staff and nurses before passing away.
Over the course of 4 days, he complained of intense stomach pain, passing out, throwing up blood, and severe diarrhea. Colby was told he was faking by the state appointed nurse and staff members at the facility. For 4 days Colby begged for help from all persons that were in charge of his care. Before passing away Colby told his mother: “Momma they didn’t believe me. They told me I was faking.” He died of sepsis due to either a ruptured appendix or a bleeding ulcer 6 hours after that conversation.
When they opened up his body for an autopsy there were signs of gangrene from the top of the stomach to the bottom of the colon.
After fighting this case for over 5 years we were informed today that the Idaho State laws protect the state of Idaho 100% from all injuries or deaths incurred by incarcerated citizens. These current laws are written so that the Idaho Correctional Facility is protected against all crimes they commit. Our only hope is to petition the federal Supreme Court to hear our case. Surely, watching a young boy die from sepsis and the pain that he endured at the hands of state employees should not go ignored. He had civil rights. He had the right to medical attention. No human being should be forced to die such horrible painful death as he did.
We have until Friday March 7th to raise $55,000.00 to pay the attorney and court fees so that we can continue fighting these unjust laws. We would then need to also pay further fees as we move forward. We are asking for help to raise $100,000.00. I know this is bigger than us. There is no way to fight this unless the laws are changed. Please share this and help give us our hope back.
I once told my son in his darkest hour that I would never give up on him.
