Justice for Daniel Gill

My name is Dorothy Kilroy. I am from Staten Island, New York, and am an employee of ShopRite. Daniel Gill has been my boyfriend for over two years.
On the afternoon of Sunday, June 26th, 2022, an incident occurred at the ShopRite in Charleston, Staten Island, which has completely shaken up my boyfriend’s life for the worse.
My boyfriend, Daniel Gill, has been an employee at this ShopRite location for five years. He is well-liked, hard-working, and extremely dedicated to his job, even working throughout the entire pandemic. Daniel genuinely enjoys his job and working with his coworkers.
This past Sunday, while his son Andrew was campaigning outside the store, former mayor Rudy Giuliani decided to enter the store, where he began mingling with customers. A few employees, including myself, noticed a crowd forming and stood nearby to see what was happening.
When Daniel saw Giuliani, he patted him on the back - a gesture which, in another context, could easily be interpreted as a friendly greeting between men. However, because what Daniel said following the pat was a verbal insult that Giuliani didn’t like, Giuliani decided to claim that this contact was an “assault,” and demanded that Daniel, an employee of ShopRite and a law-abiding person, be fired and arrested.
After the incident and arrest, Giuliani conducted interviews claiming he felt like “somebody shot” him, and that he “went forward, but luckily didn’t fall down.” He also added that he could have “hit the ground and probably cracked his skull.”
However, when ShopRite’s security footage of the encounter was released to the New York Post, it became abundantly clear that Giuliani had blown the incident out of proportion. The “assault” Giuliani claimed had happened was, quite literally, a simple tap on the back.
Because of the lies of a rich and powerful man, my boyfriend Daniel had to spend almost twenty-four hours in police custody, now faces multiple criminal charges and various legal fees, and could potentially lose his job. Daniel is currently suspended from ShopRite indefinitely, yet he still has bills and living expenses to pay on top of these potential upcoming legal fees.
We appreciate all of the encouragement and support that the internet has shown him so far, and now we could really use any help you can afford to offer.
