Justice for Demi Dominguez & Malakhi De Leon
Go Fund Me in honor of Demi Dominguez and Malakhi De Leon – Bakersfield Families for Accountability
Our hearts are broken. It is incredibly difficult to fight for accountability, transparency and justice for not only our family but for all of yours as well. On April 19, 2019 our hearts were broken, and our lives were destroyed by tragedy. On that day, our beloved daughter and fiancé Demi and our beautiful son and grandson Malakhi died unnecessarily due to medical negligence.
Many of you know our story. Demi was pregnant, happy, engaged to be married and a month away from graduating from Cal State Bakersfield. She had her whole life ahead of her. Demi started experiencing complications and tried to seek help from her doctor but her cries for help were ignored over and over…..in the hospital and at her doctor’s office. Demi was a determined woman and she really tried to get the medical attention she needed to save her and her baby’s life, but she was never told that she had preeclampsia. The clear signs were ignored until she died of a seizure taking her last breath in her fiancé Xavier’s arms.
We haven’t shared all of the details of our story and what we as a family have had to face. It is hard for us to come forward to ask you for help, but we need your help. We need help to keep Demi and Malakhi’s case alive. Any donation will help. Your help will bring accountability and help us save other young women’s lives,
Their story does not end there. Baby Malakhi was still alive, but doctors took too long to take baby Malakhi by c-section. A strong baby, he fought hard but only lived for 18 hours. Baby Malakhi also died in his father Xavier’s arms.
Heartbroken we had no idea what to do. Wanting answers, we sought legal help. We had no idea that there was a medical negligence cap that would force us to pay for each step of the legal process. Because of this cap which stops families from seeking accountability and justice, we had to pay $30,000 for our legal fees. Now the doctors are coming after us. Both doctors have filed judgements against us, and we need to pay a lawyer to fight thembut we are tapped out. We are out of funds. If we don’t have the money to fight this case, then nothing changes. The doctors will not be held accountable and women and babies in Bakersfield will continue to be harmed.
Any donation will help us continue the fight for accountability and justice. Your donation will help save other women and babies lives.
Thank you for your help.
with much love,
Tracy and Xavier
