Justice for Kalan.

Everyone who knew Kalan La Fleur knew these simple facts; Kalan was smart, kind, generous, loving and endlessly devoted to truth and justice. A friend of anyone and everyone, no matter their political affiliations, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age or personal life preferences. So long as you were honest and good, he was your friend. Just two years before he was senselessly murdered, Kalan became a father to his adoring daughter, Rain. Nothing made him happier in the whole world than being with his little girl. He never set her down, carrying her all around the neighborhood on his big burly shoulders, stopping to smell the roses (quite literally). They were best buddies. He loved her so much.

On January 6th 2022, this amazing man and father was shot and killed, unarmed, inside of his vehicle by a neighbor over an incessantly barking dog. This tragedy left a confused little girl wondering where her daddy went and when he was coming back. It left my heart and my life in pieces. It left his dear mother and father to process so much unimaginable grief in what should be their golden years. It left his sisters, nieces and nephews, sister-in-laws, brother in-laws, and so many more people including an entire community of friends who came to love him through his cajun gumbo restaurant here in Edgewood, New Mexico called “Uncle K’s Kitchen”. Kalan had a sign in his restaurant that read “Free Hugs”. He meant it.

Without over sharing, it is a fact that Kalan was killed unnecessarily, unarmed and defenseless, sitting in his car with no way to get away from the shooter. Unfortunately, this happened on the shooters property, and, without an adequate investigation and no actual witnesses, only the shooter’s word has been heard. We still have no closure. Rain has no dad.

All of the people who loved Kalan are tired of waiting. We are tired of his killer living a free and happy life, without any consequence at all for taking such a beautiful man and important piece of our lives away. All for nothing.

This is where you can help. We are raising the money to hire a team of private investigators to work with our lawyer to get answers. We need to raise around $6,000 for the investigation. Anything helps, and I know that with the support from all of the people who knew Kalan’s heart, we can do it. Our family will not stop fighting until we get justice for Kalan, for Rains daddy and for the most wonderful man we knew. Please join us in this fight in any way you can for justice. For Kalan.
