Kevin Daniel Price
February 1st, 1996 - August 15th, 2024
Please help Kevin's family as they struggle to deal with the financial and emotional burden of his death.
In the early morning of August 12th, 2024, a 911 hangup call led to a domino effect that ended the life of Kevin Price. Fitchburg Police Officers arrived at a mental health crisis that was years in the making. A tragic set of events put in motion years prior - starting with the death of Kevin’s Mother - led to his passing three days later, alone in a hospital, his family only notified of the situation after he was already gone. Kevin deserved better, his story should be told, and his family and friends deserve justice.
Complex, Kindhearted, Creative
Kevin was a sensitive and strong willed friend to anyone he met. He was accepted at UW Madison with a full academic scholarship in 2014. He enjoyed working at the student radio and at the Orpheum Box office. He loved to draw and play video games with his friends. He loved shows that explored complex themes in a light hearted manner, like The Good Place, Charmed, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
"The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live."
Love and Loss
After his mother passed suddenly in 2017, Kevin struggled immensely with her absence. His friends and family knew that her loss affected him greatly, and Kevin found it difficult to process his grief. His mental health struggles led him down a path of substance use and unfortunate situations. Kevin’s increasingly reckless behavior was a direct result of his inability to move forward from his grief, and his story is too often shared by those who deserve better.
A Convergence of Circumstances
Kevin was gay and biracial, two identities that put him at an increased risk of a fatal outcome when interacting with police. His substance use and domestic situation further escalated his interactions with police. His friends and family attempted to intervene and break the cycle, but Kevin’s grief always pulled him back into a spiral. They had hoped he would make it through his circumstances and process his trauma, but a systemic lack of support failed him.
Kevin’s friends and family are processing their grief and looking for a path towards justice. They are searching for community resources and support to find closure with his death. His family is seeking financial assistance for his funeral expenses.
