Mario Gonzalez was killed by Alameda, California, police officers on April 19, 2021, while he was unarmed, minding his own business, and no threat to anyone. The officers forced Mario face-down on the ground, putting their weight on him for over five minutes, even after he was handcuffed, until he died. Mario was only 26 years old when he was killed.

Mario was the loving and supportive father of a now 5-year-old son, Mario Gonzalez-Cortez. Little Mario is now left without any support, love, care, or companionship of his Papi. He will grow up fatherless, and now must be raised alone by his single mother. While little Mario’s mother works full time, she now must be both father and mother to her son. All donations to this GoFundMe account will go directly to support little Mario with childcare, education, school supplies and expenses, extracurricular activities, and support. No funds will be used for legal expenses at all.
