Anna met two Vervet monkeys known as Mojo and Maya, when their owner visited her home in October 2022. Anna fell in love with the monkeys, like the entire world that watched them online. Sadly, the owner had a change in his life that caused him to rehome both monkeys. The original owner allowed Michael to purchase Mojo and Maya. The two monkeys were on a Social Media platform and Michael's only purpose was to have Mojo and Maya produce likes and money for his social media platform. Mojo sustained the most abuse. Michael would try to hold Mojo tightly so he would be in the camera view of a live stream. Mojo bit his hand, and Michael grabbed him by his head and threw him to the ground. Another time Michael crawled into a small enclosure with Mojo. He was poking at a hammock above his head to get Mojo to come down into the live stream. When Mojo climbed down, he gave Michael a warning bite. Michael tried to pry open Mojo's mouth to show the internet his teeth. Mojo ran up towards his face and bit him on his arm. Michael shoved Mojo and started kicking with his feet. He kicked Mojo in the mouth and then ended the live stream. Followers were angry and appalled. Many of you called animal control; you sent written complaints to the USDA.

As the last show of abuse Michael had Mojos teeth pulled. The Veterinarian left two molars on each side of the upper and lower jaws. The USDA received a barrage of complaints from you all! They did an inspection and wrote what is a Critical report and finally the USDA canceled Michael's exhibitors license.

Michael donated the two monkeys to a licensed breeder in Tennessee. That person posted them for sale on Facebook. A woman in Germany recognized Mojo and Maya and alerted Anna. She didn't have the luxury of time to raise the money needed. Anna was afraid that a breeder would purchase Mojo and Maya and they would disappear. Anna was sure these monkeys were the famous monkeys. The combined cost of purchasing Mojo and Maya and transportation to Florida totals $12,500. Anna paid for Mojo and Maya and then their final trip to Dania Beach Vervet Project, where they now reside. This was Anna's personal money.

Mojo and Maya are free, they are safe, and they are happy.
Mojo and Maya will live a life of enrichment and only interact with humans if they want.
Mojo loves to groom humans.
My goal is to reimburse Anna for the $12,500 she spent to purchase Mojo and Maya and the safe transportation to Florida. Then all the proceeds raised beyond $12,500 will go directly to Dr. Missy Williams PHD, founder of the Dania Beach Vervet Project.
Please give! We were all a part of this rescue! Many of us sent emails to the USDA on behalf of Mojo and Maya. Many of us called animal control. Now we need to help Anna. It is not fair to leave her with the entire cost of the rescue! Kiara's Korner will continue to give updated pictures and information about Mojo and Maya. BE A PART OF MOJO AND MAYA'S FREEDOM!
These are a few of the wild Vervet's that Dr. Missy Williams PHD helps. They are interested in Mojo and Maya, new friends?
