Justice for NYS First Responder, Mark Swanson

Hi, my name is Essence Savinon and I am a fellow EMS worker raising money for NYS First Responder - paramedic, Mark Swanson. On January 27th, 2023, 63 - year old Mark Swanson was falsely accused by authorities of purposely stealing personal belongings from a victim of a motor vehicle accident. Mr. Swanson is now charged with grand larceny and is fighting to clear his name.

Roughly about two weeks ago, paramedic Mark Swanson was working in the Northern Westchester area, where he responded to an MVA. Unfortunately, because this is an active and ongoing investigation, I cannot go into depth about the details of the situation but I will say this: It is my understanding that the call Mark responded to resulted in further complications than just a mere fender bender. The situation all of the first responders found themselves in was critical and crucial. Every one of those responders played a role that best suited their scope of practice. For Mark, his role as a paramedic is both intense and high-pressure mentally and physically.

Again, due to the ongoing status of the investigation, I cannot disclose any pertinent details regarding the case itself but if anyone knows Mark Swanson, they would know that he is not the type of person who is capable of doing something like this. Mark is a conscientious, kindhearted person and has spent his entire adult life serving others. He has been an EMS first responder for over 30 years, a paramedic for approximately 28 years, has been serving the Northern Westchester area for over 10 years, and has been with the same employer for over 20 years. You would think that someone who has devoted his life to serving others would be appreciated more, but instead, his life is being upended, along with his name and reputation being damaged all for a simple misunderstanding.

EMS is a small community and is severely underappreciated. Our skills and contributions to society are often devalued. Our wages and benefits do not match that of any other first responder like FD or PD; but those who work in EMS, especially for as long as Mark Swason did, do so because they love what they do. And Mark loves what he does. He would never jeopardize his career, let alone devalue his morals to do what he is being accused of.
