Abdul Muhammad is a gifted school leader, known as both a fixer and a systems builder. After 25 years serving students whose neighborhoods and communities are perpetually exploited and neglected Muhammad sought the principal position at a selective enrollment school (Lindblom). At Lindblom, an odd alliance developed that included a district Local School Council liaison, a faction of white Lindblom teachers, a school district supervisor and officials in a CPS Law Department that would remove six black principals before year’s end. Members of this unholy alliance pressured members of the Local School Council’s Principal Selection Committee not to choose Muhammad. When that ultimately failed, they engaged in a series of appalling actions to create as many “public failures” as possible for Muhammad, which meant knowingly and intentionally failing Lindblom and its students in the process of manufacturing these failures. The evidence suggests that in response to this smear campaign, CPS official Kelly Tarrant–with the blessings of her superiors–weaponized the CPS Law Department to launch an unethical, one-sided investigation aimed at prejudicing Mr. Muhammad and convicting him without any credible evidence.
