Justice for Rosie: Hold Animal Medical Clinic Accountable

Donation protected
Update: Rosie fought as hard as her little body could until she died in my arms at 2:35am. I took her to Animal Medical Clinic in Bristol on March 5th, she died March 6th after suffering all evening and into the night. They snapped her leg in half in one spot, another possible break in another spot and bleeding from her leg. After getting her to the emergency vet, I heard and pointed out a rattle in her chest as well that I have NEVER HEARD come from her before. Never once. That rattle intensified all evening into the night until she passed away. Her leg/foot is twisted almost 180 degrees.

I've had several people ask me to create a Gofundme to help me hold them accountable. Rosie deserves justice. I am making this Gofundme to help with legal expenses, whatever they may end up being. I will not give up on pursuing justice for Rosie and all the other animals they've hurt. I will not stop and they will not shut me up. Rosie's story is not the only one and the rest can be found on my facebook page (Katie Siksay Bentley) by others who have experienced similar situations with this place.

This is the story of what happened: I took my bird Rosie here today basically for a checkup. I asked they remove her leg band while she’s there because she hates it and it doesn’t identify me at all. Just the breeder. I ended up having to drop her off to run to church for Ash Wednesday and planned to come back to get her right after (about 45 mins). Instead they told me to wait til they called. I called several times throughout the day to check in and ask questions. They had her for 5 hours. But they’re the only vet near us that deals with birds… I never thought this would ever happen. Eventually I called again around 4 and they said she was ready. Left my house and went straight there to get her. Took about 15 mins. I pay, get her to my car and notice she’s not acting right. Then I realize she’s trying to get on her perch but can’t. When I opened her carrier to check on her leg, I realized her leg is bent sideways. Theres also blood all over her underside and in her carrier. So I take her back in and tell them something is wrong with her leg. They tell me it’s probably just irritated from removing the band. I take her out of her carrier in a room and that’s when I realize her leg is hanging there, she can’t move her foot at all, and it it bent completely inward to the point she’s stepping on it with her other foot. The “vet” comes in and I’m holding Rosie in my cupped hands (NOT her normal behavior at all) and I thought he was just going to look at her a little. He grabs her with force, flips her over and starts looking at her leg. And I KNOW he grabbed her with force because he grabbed part of my hand when he grabbed her! And I looked at him and said “okay that was aggressive.” Then he laughs and says he’s going to take her to another room because clearly I was acting insane with how he was handling her. He still has her in his hand when he hangs his arm down by his side, she’s upside down, and walks out with her UPSIDE DOWN. And it happened so fast all I could say was “please don’t let a cat get her” because THERES A CAT WALKING AROUND. One of the TECHS brings her back to me and basically tells me her legs irritated and that she must have picked at it causing the blood. She tells me they put a splint on her because she may have a “fracture”. Keep in mind her foot is literally bent under her body. Of course I asked how this could have happened. I asked several questions and was met with “she was fine when we put her back in her carrier.” So they expect me to believe that she was totally fine and snapped her leg in half on her own from picking. And we aren’t sure if it is ONE break or TWO. So I left there furious. I called 4 different vets and finally found one in Meadowview that told me he is not a bird expert but he’d do anything he could to help. Thank God for him. He did X-rays and gave her a 24 hr pain shot. $360 later and we are home. She’s lethargic, she won’t eat or drink. She can’t walk. She can’t move. I called Animal Medical Clinic from the emergency vet and explained to them that her leg ISNT fractured, it’s snapped in half and possibly broken in another spot. And that this needs to be handled because THEY did this. She again told me “she was fine when we put her back in her carrier.” And THEN she laughs at me. Thats when I said “oh hahaha it’s so funny, we can just do this the legal way, bye.” Tell me how I took my baby bird in for a checkup and ended up leaving with her on deaths door, unable to move with a snapped leg. They will take absolutely zero responsibility for this. They want me to believe she somehow broke her leg, possibly in 2 PLACES, on her own? In her fabric carrier? Her foot is currently completely twisted around facing the total opposite direction. I will not let this go and if she doesn’t make it through the night, I’m going to be perusing it 100000xs harder.
