In memory of Sam’s Ministry

Hello friends, family, & extended community,

My name is Angelique Sharpe, I am the sister of Sam Sharpe Jr., a bible loving, people loving, and compassionate unsheltered person who was fatally gunned down by out of state police officers from Ohio who were untrained and unfamiliar with the local community and in particular the unsheltered community that resides in the area.

Last winter Sam told all of us that he wanted all of the houseless people to know that Jehovah loved them and hadnt forgotten about them so he was moving in as a neighbor to pray with them, help however he could, and remind them that and that God is impartial and that in God's eyes all human lives are of equal and great value. He made lots of friends in his life and everybody loved him.

Unfortunately on the afternoon of July 16th, 2024 his light was dimmed as nearby bicycle officers who had absolutely nothing to do outside of the RNC security zone (because we literally have 4000+ officers here in our city) forcefully and fatally intervened in an altercation initiated by another houseless person who told my brother for several days that he was going to shoot and kill him and his loyal furry companion Ices, his dog. Sam actually came home yesterday morning to visit my mother and repeated this that he thought this man was going to kill him and his dog. The irony- it was the police who killed my brother claiming they were saving this guy from Sam.

Ohio PD Body cam footage shows that patrol officers were huddling in the area for a briefing, got off their bikes, pulled out guns and starts running towards my brother yelling and start shooting while he is in a stand off defending himself from the guy who was premeditating my brothers murder. My brother is seen stumbling forward. He was not "lunging" forward as the media outlets would have you believe. He has been long diagnosed and currently being treated for Multiple Sclerosis and degenerative disc disease which by ANY medical definition and diagnosis affects their movement, throws off their balance, and sensation,

impeded hearing.

That the Ohio police department used my brothers back as target practice and ambushed him while he was in a standoff defending himself from someone who was planning to kill my brother and his dog. This guy was not running away or in danger. He was antagonizing my brother while making threats. They didn’t attempt to deescalate, use a taser or anything. They didn’t know my brother has advanced MS his hearing, sight, balance and mobility is extremely compromised and this all happened on one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city where traffic is roaring all day

We dont understand the lack of regard for human life and why this situation wasnt deescalated at all. Why shoot a gun instead of using a tazer to take someone down? The shooting has now left my family completely distraught. The extent of his injuries are pending an autopsy, and are waiting for answers as the police has given us nothing. As we find out information, we will provide updates. One thing we know for sure is that we serve a God who is JUST.

This fund is being established to cover any immediate needs, financial needs pertaining to any medical, funeral, navigating the legal process, advocacy and education on police brutality and racial justice, mental/grief counseling for our family, and to assist our family in the days to come, as we continue to seek justice for Sam.
