JUSTICE FOR SHAQUORA : BLACK LIVES MATTER
Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 3:45pm to 4:59pm while driving along Steele Creek Rd. in Charlotte, NC; a middle age white male driving a white utility van aggressively followed and attempted to harm my daughter. He did this by communicating that he was going to kill her, he pointed and wave a gun and machete like knife at her, ran her off the road several times while also yelling racist and hateful obscenities. The perpetrator put his life and others in danger when he drove into oncoming traffic to run Shaquora off the road. Fortunately this traumatizing HATE CRIME was captured by bystanders and witnesses via their cell phones.
Fearful for her life, Shaquora's natural reaction was to call 911 dispatch. After three attempts to have 911 dispatch to send help; the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department did nothing to serve and protect her. A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Officer {CMPO} did however accidentally dial Shaquora's number stating he was cancelling the call and returning to the precinct instead of calling to respond to her desparate plea for help. After witnesses and bystanders stood their ground to assist and protect my daughter, Shaquora dialed 911 dispatch again.
Witnesses waited at least 1hr. for a CMPO to finally arrive to the scene. The CMPO, shared with Shaquora that 911 Dispatch deemed the experience as a hit & run, non- emergency, therefore an officer was not immediately sent to aid her. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer also stated he only came to the scene because he thought it was a hit and run accident. Shaquora's testament of her scary hate crime experience was met with a lack luster CMPO who was more concerned with sharing scenarios unrelated to her situation versus taking witness statements and reviewing video footage. He even asked if she was familiar with her rights as if she was not the victim who made the call for help.
This encounter is yet another example of the systematic racism that continues to destroy lives. As her mother, I do not take for granted my daughter survived this racist attack. I am sharing her story and standing with her to brave the steps necessary to pursue justice against the racist perpetrator and make sure the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department is held accountable for their failure to serve and protect Shaquora inside this situation.
We walk in gratitude for your donation of support. The campaign funds will assist with legal representation, medical care for her PTSD/ Depression diagnosis, counseling for Shaquora's three friends who witnessed this traumatic ordeal in their attempt to assist, miscellaneous expenses in pursuing justice of the hate crime, and the system breakdown of action steps by the 911 Dispatcher and Charlotte- Mecklenburg Police Department.
We sincerely appreciate your support.
Thank you-
