*UPDATE MESSAGE* 7/30/2024- Thank you all for your continued support as we pursue justice for Sonya Massey. Your contributions have been instrumental in our fight and will help us all heal after this tragedy. This is the official GoFundMe established in Sonya Massey’s honor to help provide Sonya’s family with financial support during this difficult time.

On July 6, 2024, 36-year-old Sonya Massey was taken away from her family. Officers responded to Sonya’s 911 call for a prowler in her backyard, and shortly thereafter shot her in the face and killed her after she said, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus." In mere moments, Sonya’s family lost a mother, a daughter and sister.

Sonya is remembered as caring and loving mother to her two children, a 17-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter. Sonya loved cooking, doing hair, nurturing her children, and spending time with her family. She was also a devoted church member.

The outpouring of love and support has been tremendous, but our family needs financial support as we fight for justice. Our family will likely need mental health counseling and support, money for travel costs and money for household support as we miss work to pursue justice for Sonya Massey.

This GoFundMe was started by me, James Wilburn, the father of Sonya Massey, and Raymond Massey, the brother of Sonya’s mother, Donna Massey.
