Justice For Tedrick Owens (Teddy)

Greetings! In the past few years gun violence in the community has claimed the lives of many sons, brothers, fathers, uncles and friends. It happens so often that it has risen to become the vanguard of public awareness in not only our community, the neighboring and far off communities as well. We are barely two months into the year 2024, there have already been at least ten homicides reported in the East Baton Rouge area, one of them claiming the life of my son, Tedrick Owens. This has been a tragic event that has injured the hearts of not only my family, but my community as well. My son Teddy, who was my baby boy of six children, was that one piece of joy that you couldn’t get anywhere else but him. He was young by age, but his spirit was one of an old man. Teddy was one of the most lovable, caring, protective, and hard-working men I knew, and we will most definitely miss his presence. My son not only showed love to me and his family, but to others in the community. Hearing how everyone from the elders to youth of the community, spoke so highly of my son, took away some of the sorrow I felt after hearing about my son's death.
This tragic moment in my life has encouraged me to join the efforts of other mothers and families who have lost their loved ones and the community outreach programs so that we can continue to advocate for the families of all victims of gun violence. I may not be able to bring my son back, nor anyone else’s, but I can and will advocate so that we continue to bring awareness to the Baton Rouge Police Department and other agencies that are able to assist with putting an end to gun violence in the community so that we can prevent future loved ones being taken away from us.
I am here today to say thank you for all of the calls, visits, texts, and prayers from everyone at this tragic time in my life. I am not able to answer every call and text, but they are not being ignored and I will contact everyone one at a later time. I am asking that everyone respects the privacy that’s needed by my family at this time due to the ongoing investigation and continued efforts of resolving this case. I really appreciate all the love that is being shown for Teddy. Special thanks to all those who have inquired about contributing at this time. Please feel free to contribute here. Thanking you in advance!
