JUSTICE FOR WILLIAM WALTER AHMO
Donation protected
My son William Walter Ahmo (we all called him Will) was a young Indigenous man who died while in custody at the Headingly Correctional Centre.
On February 7, 2021, an “incident” took place in the jail. For 11 minutes Will’s heart stopped. Eventually he was revived and put on life support. When he got to the hospital, the doctors told us that he had damage to his spine and his brain. On February 14, 2021, our Will passed away. We are still learning the details of what happened on February 7th. But we do know that Will’s injuries were caused by the guards who were supposed to be protecting him and the other inmates. We know that Will did not deserve to die. Now we need your help to get justice for Will.
My son was a loving father to his son Emory. He loved his son and was so proud of him. Will looked forward to the day he would see his son graduate from university.
Will was a loving brother to his brothers and sisters. He had a great love and kindness for his people and always tried to help those in need on the streets. He would literally give the shirt off his back to those who needed.
He died a needless, tragic death while in custody.
He loved life and always had a big smile for those around him. He was outgoing friendly and loved his people.
My family hurts our hearts are broken! The pain and heartache we feel is numbing.
We need justice so that no other family has to go through what we are going through. Will was one of many people who should not have been in jail in the first place. 80% of people Manitoba jails are Indigenous, and 70% of them are not serving a sentence, they’re just waiting for bail, or trial. This is not right. No family should have to go through what we are going through. That is why we hired a lawyer and we are investigating what happened to Will. We are going to take the Manitoba Government to court and we are going to hold them accountable for their actions.
All money raised will go towards legal expenses.
