When I was pregnant with my son, my ex-husband started physically abusing me. He would strangle me, throw me on the floor and assault me. He even assaulted me while he held our six-month-old son. I knew then that I need to leave. I never want my son to ever witness such violent acts. When I told my ex-husband that I wanted a divorce he told me if I left, he would take full custody of our son. Once I left he followed thru with his threat to take our son away from me. Over the last 3 years my ex-husband has taken me to court repeatedly because he knew I did not have the financial means to fight him, this is called legal abuse and it is one of the many ways abusers continue to perpetuate Domestic Abuse. My ex-husband is politically connected in Orange County, he has money, and he has a family friend who is a family law attorney representing him.
In December of 2022, my ex-husband accomplished what he had set out to do, he was granted sole legal custody of our son. I soon came to find out that 3 women who I called friend, who watched me raise my son, saw my dedication to his wellbeing, saw me nurture him, teach him and adore him, these women reached out to my ex-husband and wrote horrendous statements about my ability to be a mother. Days later my attorney recused himself from my case because I still have a $20,000 balance that I cannot pay.
In January of 2023, the final hearing was had on the sole custody issue, I had no attorney to represent me and the judge made the permanent order granting my ex-husband sole legal custody.
My ex-husband made it a point to request professional supervised visits knowing how challenging that would be for me and he is not even willing to share the costs. Its been over 4 months since I have seen my son. My ex husband won’t even allow me routine FaceTime with Wyatt.
Total amount I have borrowed in personal loans and maxed out my credit cards $120,000. I have called every entity I could find in order to get legal representation, but no attorney will take my case because I don’t have the money for the retainer.
It terrifies me that my son is with my ex-husband because he has the capacity to be physically violent, but he is also emotionally and psychologically abusive.
Please help raise raise the money I need in order to continue to fight to see my son again.
