Justice for Yuendumu: Inquiry on Police Shooting

Donation protected
Kumanjayi Walker was shot by police three times in his home at Yuendumu on Saturday night 9 November 2019. He was 19 years old. The police had not come to the house to resolve a dispute or because they had been called to deal with an emergency. They were simply there to arrest this teenager for breaching parole.

The last time police shot a Warlpiri Aboriginal person was in the 1928 Coniston Massacre.

Warlpiri people are scared and upset and fearful. They are asking for an independent inquiry into the shooting and policing- they want to ensure that this never happens again.

The funds raised through this campaign will be withdrawn by Lisa Watts directly, and will be used to pay for lawyers to travel to Yuendumu to facilitate an independent inquiry into the shooting. While most of the lawyers will be working pro-bono (for free) we still need to cover the costs of airfares and other transport, and associated forensic expertise.
