My name is Alicia Odhiambo, I am an American living overseas in New Zealand with my husband and two children. I have a passion to help alleviate the effects of poverty and human trafficking in the world.
I have been searching for what exactly my piece in this huge problem could be. Recently a friend asked if I had thought about reselling jewelry and handicraft made in Nepal. I lived in Nepal for about 10 years and feel it is my heart home. So this idea encompassed not just one by two of my passions. Nepal and stopping suffering from poverty and human trafficking.
The money raised will help me create an online store to sell fair trade jewelry and handicraft made by rescued women in Nepal. These women are employed through organizations I have a personal relationship with and can vet for the purposes of accountability. I also hope to reinvest profits back into finding long term solutions for these two problems in the world.
While in Nepal I was able to see first hand what happens when a person is in serious poverty or the victim of a human trafficker. It broke my heart to see how much some people have to endure just to survive. With the earthquake in Nepal that took out whole villages and killed over 8000 people, this region is even more suceptible to the ravages of human traffickers. This social venture will help to save lives and restore dignity to the most vulnerable in Nepal.
