The murder of Santiago (Chagui) Mari Pesquera, son of Juan Mari Brás and Paquita Pesquera Cantellops, is an emblematic case of Puerto Rico's colonial relationship with the United States. He was killed for being the son of the independence leader in order to intimidate him and to stop the growing movement that he spearheaded.
