Support for Brittany & Jaxon Mashburn
To everyone who has followed Justin’s journey and prayed for his recovery we appreciate you.
Unfortunately, Heaven gained another Angel and Justin passed away Monday evening. His infection returned and there was nothing the doctors could do. He fought as hard and long as he could.
Justin leaves behind his fiancé Brittany, their 3 year old son Jaxon, family and close friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held for Justin at 10:00 am, Monday, May 15th, 2023 at St. Andrews Community Church GMC located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to help support Brittany & Jaxon may be made here or donation can be made through the American Heart Association in Justin’s.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support over the last few days.
I wish I was coming to you with better news but unfortunately, Justin was hospitalized on 2/4/23 and is extremely sick with infective endocarditis and a severe bacterial blood infection. He had to have open heart surgery on 2/14/23 and they cut out the infected valves. They replaced the tricuspid and aortic valves with artificial valves. Although the surgery went well, Justin has to continue to be in the hospital for another 8 weeks, as he has to be on continuous IV antibiotics. You can read the original story below. I have posted several updates along the way and will continue to do so.
Justin hasn’t been feeling very well for a while now. He went to the ER on January 29, 2023, and they sent him home saying he had a respiratory infection. He wasn’t getting any better. He had pain in his side, couldn’t breathe and was very weak.
He went back to the ER on February 4th, 2023 and demanded lab work be completed. The blood work came back with a hemoglobin count of 5 when the normal range is between 13-18. Immediately, he was transported and admitted to the hospital where he underwent 3 blood transfusions. His hemoglobin had dropped even more. He was transferred to ICU. His hemoglobin is still low and his blood is still very infected. There is a lot of damage to his heart.
Justin, only 33 years old, has been diagnosed with infective endocarditis.
He has now gone through multiple different scans and tests including his heart being scoped to look at the blockages and how much damage has occurred.
On top of Justin’s heart being so heavily damaged, he has staph in his blood that has spread throughout his body. They have had to drain fluid that has built up around his lungs and his doctors are concerned his spleen is in septic shock. With the amount of damage done to Justin’s body, the doctors believe he’s been sick for a long time. Justin will be hospitalized for a while, which means he is not able to work or help provide for his family. Justin has a two-year-old son and a fiancé who need him healthy, want to see him go home and miss him very much.
Please send your love and prayers of healing to our family as we navigate this difficult time. If you are compelled to do so, please donate here to support Justin’s medical costs as this will help elevate some of the financial burdens for us during an already incredibly stressful time. We want Justin to get the absolute best treatment possible. Our wish is for him to make a full recovery and get back to what he enjoys the most. Being a Dad, and home with his family. Currently, we are living on 1 income and Justin does not have health insurance. As you can imagine, this has become a big financial burden and bills are stacking up quickly. Every little bit donated is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
With love and appreciation,
Justin, Brittany, Jaxon Mashburn
