On the eve of September 9th, 2014, our beloved wife, mother, family member, and friend, Justine Busch, suffered a massive hemorrhage in her brain causing a stroke. She was immediately taken by ambulance to Chandler Regional, where the ER doctors preformed a CT scan of her head. Due to the severity of the stroke, the ER Doctor determined that she needed to be airlifted to the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Medical Center in downtown Phoenix. Upon Justine’s arrival at Barrow, she was immediately taken to the operating room for an emergency craniotomy, a surgery to remove the back part of her skull bone, in order to allow her brain to swell without causing further injury. This surgery presented with a 50% chance of survival, and by the power of God and all the prayers being said, she made it through the surgery. She is in the ICU on a ventilator and is not conscious yet. As we all know, Justine (Tina to her family) is a healthy, active, young woman, so this came as a shock to all of us. It has been determined that she has an abnormality in the blood vessels in her brain called an arteriovenous malformation or AVM. This condition is something that she was probably born with and up until Tuesday, it hadn't caused any problems. Her AVM lies deep within the back part of her brain, which presents a very risky and complicated situation for surgical removal. It could take several surgeries, and with each surgery the risk is high. We ask for continued prayers for her healing. Due to her critical condition, the doctors and nurses are only allowing immediate family to visit for very short periods of time. With brain injuries, it is important that all stimulation be kept at a minimum for recovery. We know that everyone is worried so we will update this page often to keep you informed.
