Justin’s New Wheelchair

Hello everyone! Most of you who know me already know I’ve spent the last decade plus some using a wheelchair to get around after a car accident that left me paralyzed from the chest down. In the 12 years since that fateful day, I’ve used quite a few different brands and styles of these chairs on wheels, although I’ve always been limited to what I could get due to what insurance would pay for. Every chair I’ve used has, in one way or another, been a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all kind of chair that never really fit my body or needs 100% correctly. As you can imagine this has led to years of extra back and neck pain and difficulties getting around on top of what I already go through from the initial injury.
Now I’m looking into getting a fully custom-made wheelchair made specifically for me by a company called Hands on Concepts. Not only will it be custom made to my specifications, it will be designed and made by other wheelchair users who know and understand the everyday problems wheelchair users face other than just not being able to walk and it will also constructed from strong, yet light-weight titanium that will not only provide a light frame, but will withstand the test of time much better than the chairs I’m used to.
Now all this sounds great, but with anything wheelchair related (especially custom-made) comes a steep price and because it will be a “custom-made” chair insurance typically will not help with the cost so it will have to be completely out of pocket. The design and materials I’ve picked out for the chair I would like to get that will last me the next 10-15 years or longer can be anywhere from $6,500-$8,500 depending on options. Anyone who truly knows me, knows I don’t like asking for money, but since this is going to be a pretty large out of pocket expense, I would appreciate any help I can get. I don’t expect to raise that entire amount, but any little bit will help and go towards the cost of what is essentially my legs and how I get around everyday and I would be eternally grateful for any and all help.
Thank you for your time and help either by donating or sharing this post to all your friends.
