For more than 25 years, starting as a guitarist, then while honing his signature raw harp tone and vocals for his band, James Reeser has been a fixture in West and Central Michigan blues scene. His high standards for the spirit and tradition of the first generation electric blues and jump blues show through in his performances. James has been a longtime supporter of the blues community, even representing Central Michigan for the Capital Area Blues Society as quarter-finalist in the 2019 and 2023 International Blues Challenge. As host of the monthly blues jam at the Sand Bar in Saugatuck, James makes sure everyone gets their chance to play and grow their skills.
In the fall of 2019, our good friend and colleague, James was diagnosed with stage three prostate cancer. He has given so much time, love and so many years to fans of true blues. It is time to give back.
At this point the diagnosis is good, however, it will require a very expensive treatment and a special procedure that will keep James from his business. James is positive and ready to work on his recovery.
James is a self-employed welder that specializes in boats. At this point, it looks like treatment will require at some days away from his business and booking future jobs, meaning he will have no full-time income while he is recovering and uncertain job prospects until he is fully recovered.
On behalf of James and Kathy, the Backseat Drivers: Marcus, Charles, Mike and Dan, ask that you help support them cover their bills during James’ treatment. The bills are already starting to come in for tests.
Please consider donating to James and Kathy so they can focus on their health while James receives treatment.
