Caring for Cindy
Donation protected
Cynthia Ries, affectionately known as Cindy, has been a constant presence in Nick's life, serving as the rock of their family. She fearlessly raised Nick and his older brother Jay as a devoted single parent. Over the last few years, she has also selflessly cared for her mom, embodying the role of a dedicated caretaker. Cindy's compassion knows no bounds as she consistently puts others before herself. Now, the time has come for her to embrace the support of others and allow them to reciprocate the care she has given so faithfully.
Cindy began experiencing severe pain in her throat. As her throat pain intensified, she proactively scheduled routine scans and tests to assess her condition. Unfortunately, within a week, her breathing difficulties worsened, prompting an emergency response. On Tuesday, July 25th, she was transported by ambulance from her doctor's office in NJ to Sloan Kettering ICU in New York City.
While in the hospital, Cindy was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of thyroid cancer, anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC). She underwent emergency surgery, and was placed on a ventilator where she remains currently. She has received some radiation therapy, and the doctors are hopeful that she will soon be able to breathe without the ventilator’s support.
This whirlwind of events has taken everyone by surprise, leaving Nick and his wife Cathy to navigate each day as it comes. Nick remains steadfast, devoting every possible moment by his mom's side. Their ultimate goal is to bring Cindy home to stay with them as soon as she's able.
To support Cindy's care during this challenging time, we have launched a GoFundMe campaign. Your thoughts and prayers mean the world to us, and any contribution will go a long way in easing the financial burden of staying in the city and covering future medical expenses. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
