Bill's medical expenses

As some of you may know, Bill Wiegand was in an accident last Saturday evening (5/28) on the farm. A gas can of gasoline exploded in his hands resulting in burns covering ~21% of his body. Mostly his arms, stomach, chest, and neck. Thankfully, his parents Will and Rhonda were home and heard the explosion. They were able to rush Bill to the Shelby hospital. He was cared for there as plans were coordinated to transport him to a burn center. Medical transport plans were complicated due to a number of circumstances, including weather and available air transport. After 8+ hours waiting on the Hi-Line, Bill was finally flown to the UCHealth Burn and Frostbite Center in Aurora Colorado. Will and Rhonda immediately drove to Helena and flew to Denver to be by his side and help with his recovery.

 

Bill faces a lot of uncertainties ahead of him at this time. His burns and treatment options are assessed and re-evaluated on an hourly basis. The number of surgeries ahead of him at this point are unknown. There is also the ever-present risk of infection. His hospital recovery time is currently expected to be 1-2 months, but that may change.
