Get Bill Home
Firstly I want to apologise that I have to do this as I see these pages as begging for money... but sadly that’s the point I’m at now as I am literally BEGGING for help.
My dad, Bill, was travelling on holiday alone in Thailand. On 22/02 he suffered a stroke in his apartment (which we had no address for). Some of of you may have seen my Facebook posts looking for him when he failed to make contact with family. After the help of many strangers sharing and liking the post, we got in contact with his condo manager who found him 8 DAYS after having his stroke! I don’t want to say too many details as it is absolutely horrific the way he was found, but to explain how he survived, he managed to pull the u bend off the sink to get water!!!
This is where the problems started. In Thailand there is no NHS. The ambulance would not take him before £500 was paid. Then in the hospital they charge anything from £1,000-£5,000 PER DAY. Now you would never normally know these figures as your insurance would pay for the bills, but sadly we believe my dad did not realise his insurance had lapsed. He had travel insurance through RBS which was a 31 day policy you automatically have if you’re a member, but he was out of the country for 37 days so it’s now void.
This means we need to fly him home at a cost of £29,000 (yes I’m shocked at the cost too(!) as two nurses need to escort him) I’m in the process of trying to be made power of attorney but nothing is quick when it comes to legally taking over someone’s bank account! And even when I do get access, I very much doubt there is 30k sitting there!!!
I have no where else to turn now as he needs to be home in Scotland to recover rather than a non English speaking Bangkok hospital. The embassy have been worse than useless as they told me to take a loan (sorry what bank would lend me £30k?!)
PLEASE if you can spare even £1 it would mean SO much to me so he can get the correct treatment in our hospitals and I can visit him.
Thank you for reading and for anything at all you can spare.
Fiona (Bill’s daughter)
