Where do I begin… A week ago today my son was shot, and our lives forever changed. One senseless act of violence almost ended my son’s life. BUT GOD, had other plans for him and spared his life. It has been a tough week for everyone involved especially my son learning to adjust to a new way of living and mourn a life suddenly taken away. He has always been a strong young man with a mind of his own, athletic, and full of energy always seeking the next best thing. Challenging himself to be the best in every sport he played. Now his ability to play sports has temporarily come to a halt along with his plans to join the military, get married, buy a house, and have children.
The bullet entered in his back through his shoulder blade and caused severe damage to his lung, stomach, diaphragm and ultimately severed his spinal cord at his Thoracic 11 membrane. They had to remove parts of his stomach, diaphragm, and lung to stop the bleeding as his abdominal cavity was full of blood. He needed spinal surgery and as the surgeon went in, he said his spine was worse than what they originally anticipated. How do you tell your son the doctors say he will never walk again? I can’t and won’t believe in this diagnosis. My son is strong and resilient. He is determined and will overcome this. They could not break my son’s spirit. We serve an Amazing God of the impossible! I truly believe my son will walk again, have children, and live a strong, prosperous, and normal life. He is a fighter and so very brave. I am so proud to be his mother! ❤
The process of recovery has been tough and will be lengthy for my son. He is experiencing unbelievable pain right now and must take a lot of pain medication to help manage that pain. He also needs extensive physical and occupational therapy for months if not years! This is and will take a financial toll on my family. We are a proud hardworking family who strives to help others in “their” times of need, but never anticipated that “We” would be in need of such support. He needs a new adjustable bed, special pillows, braces for his back, ramps to get in and out of the house, a wheelchair, weights to build his muscles, a caregiver, and numerous other things. I am a single mother, and his father does the best he can but also has other small children he financially responsible for. His father and I would give up our life for our son if we could, but he needs us here.
I am asking if you could not only pray for my son’s complete and total healing but that you would consider donating to a fund to help with the hospital bills, physical therapy appointments, co-payments, medications, and all the other things my son will need as a result of this senseless crime against him. Pray the individual who did this is brought to justice and held accountable for his actions!
